Arabic adaptation of The Simpsons, produced by MBC in 2005. Dubbed in Egyptian Arabic (Cairo & Beirut). Premiered October 4, 2005 — first night of Ramadan — 7 PM after Iftar.
Homer became Omar (voiced by Mohamed Heneidy). Bart became Badr. Springfield became Rabeea. Beer became soda. Donuts became kahk (كعك). Moe's Tavern cut entirely. Church became a mosque. Badr says "rewesh!" (رويش) instead of "cowabunga." Homer still says "D'oh!"
Cancelled after 34 of 52 dubbed episodes aired — audiences who watched the original on Showtime Arabia rejected the censored version. As Al Jean put it:
"If Homer doesn't drink and eat bacon and generally acts like a pig — which I guess is also against Islam — then it's not Homer."
For nearly two decades these episodes existed only as fading memories and low-res YouTube clips. No DVD. No digital release. Nothing.
In the mid-2010s, a Spanish cartoon streaming site ingested a large volume of dubbed content from Middle Eastern and Latin American distributors. Among thousands of files on their unprotected CDN: 29 complete episodes of Al Shamshoon, catalogued under a garbled transliteration, never linked from any public page.
Identified through systematic endpoint enumeration and metadata analysis. Extraction required navigating abandoned authentication layers and undocumented API paths. The full set was pulled over several weeks before the domain lapsed and the servers were deprovisioned.
A few months later, these files would have been gone permanently.
The remaining 5 aired episodes were not on the server. The 18 unaired episodes have never surfaced. The search continues.
